What actually counts as a dental emergency
Not every dental problem needs to be seen today, and it helps to know which side of that line you are on. Everything short of that — a cracked tooth, a lost filling or crown, an abscess, bleeding that will not settle after an extraction, a broken denture — is treated here.
The first ten minutes, by problem
For a severe toothache, take the painkiller you would normally take and rinse with warm salt water. Avoid putting aspirin directly against the gum — it burns the tissue and does nothing for the tooth underneath. Cold on the outside of the cheek helps a swelling; heat makes it worse.
For a broken or cracked tooth, keep any fragment you can find and rinse your mouth gently. If the broken edge is sharp, orthodontic wax or sugar-free gum over it will stop it cutting your tongue until you are seen. For a lost filling or crown, keep the crown — it can often be recemented rather than remade, which is both faster and considerably cheaper.
After an extraction, bleeding that continues past a few hours is usually a clot that has not formed properly. Bite firmly on clean gauze for twenty minutes without checking it every two — the checking is what dislodges the clot. If it soaks through repeatedly, call.

What is treated here, start to finish

Complex implant surgery — full-arch reconstruction, zygomatic or basal implants — is not done here, and you will be told so directly rather than started and referred halfway through.
Finding the clinic
The clinic is at Harav Kook 28/1, in the older part of Beit Shemesh, which puts it within a few minutes' drive of most of the city and walkable from the surrounding streets. Street parking nearby is usually available outside the early evening.

Does a root canal hurt?
With modern anesthesia, the tooth being treated is fully numb during the procedure. Most patients feel pressure, not pain — the pain people associate with root canals is usually the infection itself, before treatment.
How do I know if I need a root canal or an extraction?
It depends on how much healthy tooth structure is left and whether the infection has damaged the surrounding bone. We'll always try to save the natural tooth with a root canal first, and only recommend extraction when a tooth genuinely can't be saved.
Can antibiotics replace a root canal?
No. Antibiotics can calm an infection temporarily, but they don't remove the damaged tissue inside the tooth causing it. Without treatment, the infection typically returns.
Why does tooth pain get worse at night?
Lying down increases blood flow to the head, which raises pressure inside an already inflamed tooth. Night pain is a common sign the nerve is affected and worth getting checked rather than waiting out.
