Swelling in the face or gum, pain ordinary painkillers are not controlling, a tooth knocked out or broken by injury, bleeding that will not stop, or a lost crown or filling leaving a tooth sharp or exposed. Brief cold sensitivity or a dull ache you have had for weeks deserves an appointment, but not an emergency one.
