How often should I actually come?
Every six months is the usual advice, but it is not one number for everybody. If you have had gum disease, grind your teeth, smoke, or have a lot of existing restorations, more often is genuinely justified. If your mouth has been stable for years, annually may be enough. We would rather tell you the interval that fits your mouth than sell you the standard one.
What happens at a checkup?
An examination of every tooth and existing filling, a look at the gums and the way they attach, a check of the soft tissues, and X-rays where they are due. The scale and polish removes hardened tartar a toothbrush cannot shift. Most of the value is in what gets caught early — decay between teeth and early gum disease are both invisible and painless until they are not.
Do I need X-rays every time?
No. Frequency depends on your risk of decay and what was found last time, not on a fixed schedule. Decay between back teeth is the main thing they catch that an eye cannot, and catching it there is the difference between a filling and a root canal. If we are taking them we will say why.
Nothing hurts. Is a checkup worth it?
