Do I need an implant for every missing tooth?
No, and that is the main thing people get wrong about full-arch work. A full arch is usually restored on four to six implants carrying a fixed bridge, not on twelve or fourteen separate posts. How many depends on the bone available and the bite, which is what the planning appointment and the imaging are for.
How long does the whole thing take?
Several months, and the waiting is doing work — the implants have to integrate with the bone before they can carry a fixed bridge. Some cases allow a temporary fixed bridge on the day of surgery so you are not without teeth in the meantime; whether yours does depends on how solid the implants are at placement.
Is this better than dentures?
For most people, considerably — implant-supported teeth are fixed rather than removable, do not move when you eat, and slow the bone loss that continues under a denture. But a well-made denture is a fraction of the cost and a legitimate choice. We would rather set out both honestly than assume the expensive option is automatically the right one.
What does it cost?
It is the largest dental expense most families will plan for, and it is usually only partly covered if at all.
